The cost of living crisis has been an inescapable term over the past several years, impacting the majority of the population through price rises affecting everything from petrol to food. But for some young people the cost of living crisis has been devastating with costs skyrocketing, they have been left deciding between eating or heating.

Analysis by Stonehaven, data and insights specialists, has shown that with an investement of £110m per year you could both help young people in supported housing to thrive and prepare to move into independent living and save the government £18 for every £1 spent.

MPs need to hear about this. Write to your MP today.

Here's what we're calling for

To help young people:

  • The Government should introduce an Essentials Guarantee for benefits, an independently-calculated figure which would determine the minimum level of benefits to meet people’s essential needs.

  • Young people under 25 who are living independently should receive an additional Universal Credit payment, to bring their standard allowance up to match the over 25s rate.

  • Residents of supported accommodation should receive a Universal Credit work allowance to allow them to earn more before their income from benefits is tapered.
